The right one controls the outside porch light, which is a “motion-detector” type of light. (When switched on at night, the light comes on if there is motion around it; otherwise, it stays off.) I keep the porch-light switch “on” at all times so it will go into its night mode at dusk.

Recently, I have found that, sometimes at night, when I turn off the ceiling fan to go to bed, the porch light will come on, as if it has detected some motion. ??? I do not understand why, or how, it is doing this — and it doesn’t do it all the time.

Can someone knowledgeable in these things let me know what might possibly be the problem, and how I would fix it if it is a big problem, or whether I can just pretend it isn’t happening and not worry about it???

I have 27″ room (from the point on the ceiling where I will hang the light to the top of the doorway).   Pendant light sizes range from 10″ up to over 20″.

I don’t want it to look too small or too big for the doorway.  Most of the ones I like are around 15″.

Will that look too big?

I would like the spacing of each light to be 18 inches apart and I need to hang 36 lanterns.  At least 50 feet or a I can connect smaller strings together.

Can I find this in online stores? Target?

In the meantime I am looking for something that I could either attach or hang for a porch light.  When I look on the internet the closest thing I could find would be these solar powered motion detector lights.

I really want something that I could switch on and off myself.   I thought maybe there would be a battery powered light that I could hang and switch on that would give off enough light.

Many solar lights do not give off much light.  Has anyone seen anything that might work?

There are 2 lights in the porch but only one works, there is nothing wrong with the fuse or trip switches and the bulb works. Recently I  turned it on and BOTH!! the lights worked.  But now only one works.

Any suggestions would be great Thanks.

Okay, they are on different fixtures in the ceiling and the fuse is okay because I have a fuse tester and that said it was good and there are 2 switches but both lights work on either switch in unison.

They are the bulbs which clip into a small bracket and conceal away in the ceiling and the contacts are okay on the bulb but the fixtures are rather new so I  don’t think the connector which connects into the bulb is corroded.

There are not that many choices in ‘UL wet’ hanging lanterns.

The PROBLEM- I installed the fan and light both working just fine, but now the lights in the next room over and my porch light do not work. The oulets in those rooms work but not the ceiling fixtues.

Any ideas to the problem? I’m guessing I dislodged a wire when installing the ceiling fan that ran power to the other rooms….

It is a large covered area and it never gets wet there. I would like to replace the ugly 1980s light that is currently there.
